Halloween 2011

A quick pic of my costume today.

Hawkeye!

A repainted Heroclix figure.  I took a 'before' pic of this figure, but I left it at home.  Here is a 'stock' heroclix picture:
Edit (eh, I lied.  Here it is, pre refinishing)

Here is my 'redo'

I turned a bad situation worse

Played the first Takur Ghar scenario with Force on Force yesterday.  The US forces were all wiped out by the end of turn 3!  The HMG on the ridge killed every last soldier with great rolls, as well as the US soliders not being able to supress it in time.  They never even made it to cover.

The Taliban forces

The US Forces - hardly seems fair does it???

The downed soldier - Petty Officer First Class Neil C Roberts.  By the 'bonzai' tree

The table with forces arrayed!  The Taliban are visible to the left and right if you look closely

The final result

Well, at first glance, this was partly my fault for sure.  The first thing I did was split the squad on 6 into 3 groups of 2.  This is BAD in Force on Force.  I think the best thing to do would have been to get to cover, and THEN split if necessary.  I thought I could use three separate groups for supression/cover, but it didnt work that way.

I need to try this scenario out again.  Honestly, even if I had kept the US forces together, I dont know how they win this scenario.  Terry Taliban starts the game off hidden, can ambush, and are swarming the downed soldier.

When the cat is away, Jay will be a dork

My wife is out of town this weekend, so I finished up the Takur Ghar board Ive been working on.  Im going to play a game of Force on Force on it.  Im pretty happy with the way it turned out.

The poor guys that dropped into this mess fell right into the middle of a hornets nest.  More with the "game report"

Paws4Ever Walk For Animal Protection

Paws4Ever is a non profit animal protection organization.  They are a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats.  They also offer lots of education programs, dog training courses, and other animal related events.

Coming up in a few weeks, P4E is hosting a walk to raise money for the organization.  I dont typically like to solicit for anything, much less stuff here on my blog, but P4E is a group that is very important to both my wife and I.  I know there are 10-12 people that visit my blog when I make a post.  Would you be willing to donate a few bucks to sponsor my wife and I?  The link to the walk, and the Paws4Ever website are below.  Thanks for reading and donating!!!!

US Paratroopers

This is my first attempt at US Paratroopers from WW2 in 20mm.  These figs are from SHQ figures.  I bought just a squad of these guys, as I wanted to see what they were like, but Im still on the fence with them.  Some of the figures were great - some were not so much (ie, the guy who is prone literally had no face;  also, couldnt tell if the figures had patches or not...I dont think they did, but who the hell knows???).  They were also tougher to paint then I thought.

Also used some decals from Company B for the unit and rank insignia.  Somewhere, I read that the Screaming Eagles didnt use flags on the right shoulder on D Day, so I went with that.

Oh well - here they are:

Caution! Zombies ahead

We went to the big city last night to see a zombie walk.  We didnt find out about it in time to dress up, but next year, oh yes, next year.  Basically, there are several survivors - they take off and all the zombies take off after them.  Good fun.
