My wife and I went up to DC this weekend for a quick trip (non tourist related), but we did get a quick trip in to Arlington Memorial Cemetery.  Oh my GOD - how have I never done that before????

Wouldnt you know it....my wife and I were standing next to talkers.  We had to shush them....

And, a quick shot of a bunch of gravestones.  Very sobering, yet at the same time very incredible, to see all of the names of heroes who have served our country.  Saw several Medal Of Honor winners which was pretty neat too.

Havent posted much here lately.   Been working on a few things but other things have been going on instead.  Hopefully aim to change that shortly.

We took a long weekend and went to Vancouver, BC.  While there, we went to the Reifel Bird Sanctuary - an awesome place outside the city limits for wild bird migration.  A few pics:

This is a totally 'wild' sanctuary - its not closed in in any way.  If you hold raw peanuts in your hands, birds will land, snatch the peanut, and take off

This was the view of the place where we stayed.  I could move there and never look back.

Tiger, Tiger; and Mother Nature is a mean bitch

Ive been working on these for what seems like weeks now...finally got around to finishing them.  Tigers!

Also, a few weeks back, we got the worst ice storm I've ever been in.  Finally getting around to throwing up some pics

My wife and I spent the majority of a weekend cleaning up as much as we could on our own, before we had to call in some help to remove the mess.  Took 7 guys 3 days to get it all cut up and totally removed.

Elfquest - Dewshine, and trip to the lake

More work on Elfquest stuff this weekend.  Only 3 more figs to go!  They should all get done by the end of the week at latest!

Weird - in my searching, I found a real person dressed as Dewshine, and what looks to be a fan movie.  Oh dear.

Also this weekend, went out on a guided tour of Jordan Lake here in the Raleigh/Durham area looking for bald eagles with some friends of ours.  We saw three bald eagles and an osprey, and lots of other birds too.  good times

Trip to the Alamo

My wife and I took a short trip to San Antonio this weekend.  Made my first trip to the Alamo, and sadly to say, it was pretty disappointing.

You'd think that at a place like that, there would be a certain reverence.  After all, a couple hundred American heroes died there, including famous ones like Davy Crockett and William Travis.  But, instead, the place is a junk shop!  If you want Alamo crap, then this is the place for you!!!!

In fairness, the grounds that are left of the Alamo are very pretty, and there are pretty gardens out behind the old chapel.  The chapel itself is really pretty too - on the inside anyway.

The main reason we went to SA was to see Hal Ketchum, a country music singer that my wife just loves.  He has been around a while, and is nearing the end of his career, but he went and played at a place called 'Gruene Hall'.  It was a true Texas "roadhouse" style bar!  We got there early, and managed to be basically in the second 'row'.

We got to meet him afterwards.  My wife loved it!  Sweaty old man!

Also, took a few videos, but only managed to get one uploaded.  This man can sing.

Sasquatch and some BMPs

Finished up some things and started some more over the weekend.  It seems (and Im happy about this!) that Ive always got two or three things going on at one time these days.

First up, Sasquatch from Reaper Miniatures.  This could be a 'squatch' like that 'Squatchin guy', or, my intent, was the big comic book character from Alpha Flight.

Also, I completed 5 Iraqi BMP-1s (1/285th) from GHQ

Currently on my painting desk are some scouts and scavengers from Copplestone Castings, a referee from Dreadball, and 3 T72 20mm tanks from Hobby Den.

Someone has a case of the Mondays

Ugh.  I hate being at work today.  Im really grumpy.

That being said, ive got lots of stuff to share this morning, so hang in with me!

I also finished up 'Lucky Something o rather' from Dreadball.  The camera picked up every single little paint stroke and blemish, but in person, this one really turned out great.

We got some snow this weekend

and as a result, my wife and I watched the entire first season of Homeland in less than 48 hours :)  Its a really good show if you havent seen it yet.  Id say 9 out of 10 Raptor's Claws!  Great story, great cliffhangers, and lots of bewbs - not quite enough action for me to give it 10 out of 10!  Ive had a man crush on Damien Lewis ever since Band Of Brothers, and he does not disappoint!
