December 2011 and 2011 Total

Just got back from vacation.  Time to compile my yearly totals.  I think Im going to be quite pleased once I get it all totaled up.

Well, December was halfway productive.  I did quite a bit the first 15 days, then nearly nothing as SWTOR took up most of my free time.  Still playing Star Wars, but it has slacked off greatly due to internet outages, vacation, etc, etc.  I should get some painting in this month.

Dammit dammit dammit.  I cant stop buying little men.  I think I have a sickness.  I was doing my best to not spend any money in December.  However, GHQ came along and offered 15 percent off on a $50 purchase, so I jumped on it (any of you know of GHQs prices, you HAVE to jump on their specials).  Oh well - im am going to do my damnedest to not spend much on little men between now and Salute.  For real!

Completed, for December, 2011:
28mm infantry completed: 10
1 'Rambo' (The Assault Group)
1 Modern US Army (Empress Miniatures)
4 'Terminators' (Copplestone Castings)
4 Taliban (Empress Miniatures)

In progress, November/December, 2011:
20mm Infantry in progress: 8 (which I shelved for all of November (and now, all of December!))
8 US DEVGRU (Elhiem Miniatures)

28mm Infantry in progress: 10
10 Police Officers (Foundry)

So, as mentioned above, I did get Rambo finished, the US soldier in Multicam (which came out decently), and 4 Taliban.  I also managed to get the Terminators in.  This month, I will finish the cops (which I have started - maybe I can finish up this weekend?) as well as the 20mm Devgru in multicam (which the 28mm figure really helped with)

My 2011 totals are my biggest yet.  Pretty cool when compared to my 2010 totals...

Also, not so cool, is my yearly 2011 PRICE totals - I spent nearly 600 dollars more this year than last.  I should probably work to cut that down, but with my chance to go to Salute this year, and Historicon in nearby Virginia, its not looking too good.

2011 Completed Totals:
25-28mm infantry completed: 79
25-28mm cavalry completed: 3
20mm infantry completed: 135
15mm infantry completed: 33

1/1200 naval vessel completed: 1
1/72 armor completed: 11

November 2011 Totals

November is finished.  Got a good bit done as I switched from 20mm to 28mm for the majority of the month.  However, I lost two weekends to SW:TOR, which is prime painting time for me.  Still, im pretty happy with my production considering I lost 4 weekend days.  I finished Gore-rot for a competition, the Manchester City football club, three zombies, and 4 Zulu warriors.  20 28mm figures completed.

I did great as far as spending this month....that is until Black Friday rolled around.  I spent $170 that day on several different things from The Warstore, including some Foundry stuff that was on sale, and some Pig Iron sci fi stuff.  I also bought 5 or 6 zombie hunters from CoolMiniOrNot (which arrived yesterday btw).  My December resolution:   DO NOT SPEND ANY MONEY ON FIGURES IN DECEMBER!!!  Im trying to save up for my trip to Salute in April, and I do not need to be buying stuff now.  We will see how that goes.

Completed, for November, 2011:
28mm infantry completed: 20
1 'Gore-rot' (Mannequin Miniatures)
11 Soccer players (Eureka Miniatures)
3 zombies (Victory Force Miniatures)
4 Zulu married warriors (Empress Miniatures)

In progress, November/December, 2011:
20mm Infantry in progress: 8 (which I shelved for all of November)
8 US DEVGRU (Elhiem Miniatures)

28mm Infantry in progress: 6
1 John Rambo (The Assault Group)
4 Taliban (Empress Miniatures)
1 US Army (Empress Miniatures)

I didnt get to the DEVGRU that I have primed and ready to go.  I was in a mood to do something totally different, but I may get to them this month.  But, I will be working on Rambo and the US Army figure next, and then the Taliban.  "The Old Republic" comes out on Dec 20th, however, I preordered the game MONTHS ago and I think Ill be able to get in on Dec 15th, not to mention the holidays (gag).  So, most likely, whatever doesnt get done before the 15th probably wont get done this month.

Yearly Completed Totals:
25-28mm infantry completed: 69
25-28mm cavalry completed: 3
20mm infantry completed: 135
15mm infantry completed: 33

1/72 armor completed: 11
1/72 aircraft completed: 1

October 2011 Totals

I cant believe October is done so quickly.  Seems like just yesterday I was making a post about September.  This month was a good one as far as painting little men goes.  Did some more 2009 US Marines, some WW2 Paratroopers, 5 superheros and finally, a couple casualties.  Also finished the big ass game board for Takur Ghar.  Overall, this has probably been my most productive month EVER for painting the little guys!

Jesus H - I spent more money this month.  If my wife is reading this, sorry honey :)  Hah!  No im not!  I spent 25 bucks on Reaper 'super heroes' and another 10 or so on several heroclix figures that I intend to repaint.

Next up after that, I dont know - I have some 20mm zombies and police from Elhiem that look really good;  some 25mm soccer teams from Eureka that ive been wanting to try my hand at; and also some 28mm Macedonians from Sgt Major Miniatures.  Not to mention a million 20mm figures....

Late again - September 2011

September was a weird 'little man' month.  I finished up 16 marines from >2009, some zombies, a "not Predator" and a 20mm Chinook.  Truth be told, the Chinook sapped my will to paint.  Also, got FIFA later in the month, and what free time I had went to that.

Dammit!  I cant go a month without buying little men!!!  I said the same last month!
~20 dollars on a squad of WW2 US Paratroopers (SHQ Miniatures)

Completed, for September, 2011:

In progress, September/October, 2011:

12 US Marines (Elhiem Miniatures)

Also, 1 game board in progress!!!

Eh, so-so month on painting figures.  Currently, I have 12 marines sitting on my painting table nearly complete.  Im also making some progress on my 'mountain board'.  I built a bunch of trees last night, as a matter of fact, when I get home today, I intend to lay down some filler to create my 'landscape'.  Hoping to add some washes, etc, tomorrow, and possibly add some grass and snow on Friday evening.

Got several other things 'on hand' that Im looking forward to working on.  I have 8 or 10 DEVGRU from Elhiem that Im going to paint in Multicam with a new recipe I found on the net.  Also, I have 10 WW2 US Paratroops mounted up and ready to go.  Finally, I received 2 AH-6 Little Birds that Im going to be converting to MH-6 - the spec forces kind - when I get a set of passengers from RH Models.

Woohoo!!!  Also went over 100 20mm figures for the year.  Im sure that is small potatoes to many of you who see this post, but its a big deal for me!!!

Where has the time gone - August 2011 Totals

August FLEW by.  I guess the fact that it was high 90s/low 100s all month pretty much made sure that free time was all spent inside.  I got several things done, and several other things started on.

Dammit!  I cant go a month without buying little men!!!

Doesnt really looked like I finished that much in August, and I guess technically, I didnt.  However, I received all of the US Marines I was waiting on from Elhiem, and I started working on a batch of 28 of them (as of this posting, ive finished 16 of them, but they will go under September's totals).  Ive also started the Chinook, as well as a couple zombies.

Hoping to have the Chinook finished by the end of the weekend (?) and maybe make some progress on some more marines.

Once I get the Chinook done, I will have all of the figures necessary for my first Force on Force game.  I just need to finish up the mountainous game board I started on in the middle of the month.  I dont really know whats facing me with that...

July 2011 Totals

July was pretty slow as far as models go.  My cat died over one weekend which kinda put a bummer on stuff and slowed me down, and my wife and I went to two different weddings over two different weekends.  Ive also been trying to get back on track as far as exercising and getting a decent amount of sleep (my doctor said Im sleep deprived).  Anyway, all of that takes away from painting time!

That being said, I still got a small unit of Taliban completed (I guess thats gonna be a monthly thing :) ), a small test batch of some WW2 Fallschirmjager, and several 20mm vehicles.

I made three small internet purchases in July
~50 dollars on British and Afghan soldiers (mostly Brits) (Britannia Miniatures)
~50 dollars on a platoon of 2009 Marines (Elhiem Miniatures)
~20 dollars on several miscellaneous figures - a wmik, a couple taliban leadership, some Brit soldiers (Liberation Miniatures)

20mm Infantry in progress: 14
12 Taliban (Liberation and Britannia Miniatures)
2 Special Forces (Liberation Miniatures)

Another unit of grenade chucking, goat fucking Taliban are on my table and ready to go.  Im also almost finished with a Terry Taliban dshk heavy machine gunner and loader.  Finally, im sort of trying out a couple different recipes for a decent ACU pattern, and Im working on a couple spec forces guys that I had sitting around from Liberation.  One of them is nearly finished, and Im pretty happy with the way he has turned out.  Probably post him up tomorrow...

The Britannia Brits arrived last week.  I really want to start working on the US Marines I bought from Elhiem, but they havent come in yet.  Hoping to finish off the small unit of Taliban im in the middle of now, and then hammer out the Marines if they get in soon - all in August.

June 2011 Totals

Looks like my monthly work is down just a bit this month.  Huh - I "lost" one week to going away on vacation, worked on the gladiator arena which I guess I will count later on, and worked on the Revell Apache which turned out to be slightly more difficult then I assumed it would be.  I finished a small unit of 20mm Taliban, and 1 28mm Bloodbowl type figure.

I made three small internet purchases in June

I didnt get to the 28mm Macedonians like I wanted to.  However, they are still 'on my list', as well as the new Predator figure from Heresy Miniatures (which I really, really like by the way - the figures are really nice).

May 2011 Totals

Another good painting month.  I completed a bunch of 20mm stuff - some US forces from Afghanistan in Multicam which I think met with so-so results, some Al Qaeda, that sadly have turned out to be some of the best stuff Ive done to date, and some modern armor that I think turned out really well.  Finally, I worked on some 1/285th Sherman tanks.  Busy boy!

On the purchase front, I made 3 pretty major purchases:
I bought three new models (A Blackhawk, Apache, and another Bradley) from a hobby shop while I was in Canada ~75 US Dollars (Techincally June, but who's counting?)
I bought a couple MRAPs, and a bunch of other stuff from S and S Models for ~100 US dollars
I bought several more Afghani/Taliban types, as well as drivers and tank drivers from Liberation Miniatures for ~50 US Dollars.  Total of $255 for the month of May.

Completed, for May, 2011:
20mm infantry completed: 32
18 US Army, Operation Enduring Freedom (Liberation Miniatures)

Late with April's totals!

Its been an eventful week here in the good ole US of A.  The death of bin Laden has been a very surreal event.  Serious props go out to the men and women of the US armed services, but especially to the Navy SEAL team who dropped in to the compound in Afghanistan to deliver their well wishes.

Ive seen two quotes over the past few days that I really like:
"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." - Winston Churchill

"Only God can decide if terrorists are right or wrong.  Its our job to arrange the meeting." - unnamed US Navy SEAL

Now, on to the totals!  A good month for painting - I finished a lot up this month.  If you have been keeping up with my blog, I discovered 20mm miniatures, and im totally hooked.  I spent a couple hundred dollars on new figures, and also several 1/72 modern vehicles (a couple Humvees, a Bradley, and an Abrams tank).

The figures include a few packs of US soldiers from the 2004ish era of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and also several packs of more recent US soldiers, as well as some afghans, Iraqi militants, and some other generic terrorists.  I finished the OIF soldiers, and started on the more recent figures, attempting Multicam camo, which Im working on now.

I also finished up some Predators, a 15mm Humvee, and a few 'zombie hunter' types.  As usual, my ADD kicked in, and I put aside several of the 15mm vehicles I had been working on, as well as the spaceship and US Navy vessels.  Im taking them off of the 'In Progress' list, because its unlikely Ill get back to them this month.

Completed, for April, 2011:
28mm infantry completed: 12
3 "Zombie Hunters" (Recreational Conflict)
8 Hunter Aliens (Predators) (Copplestone Castings)
1 Hellhound (Heresy Miniatures)

20mm infantry completed: 16
16 US Army, Operation Iraqi Freedom (Elhiem Miniatures)

15mm Modern Armor completed: 1
1 HMMWV (Irish Serb)

In progress, April/May, 2011:
1/285 Armor in progress: 5
5 M4 Sherman tanks (GHQ Miniatures)

20mm Infantry in progress: 14
14 US Army, ultra modern (Liberation Miniatures)

Im really starting to hit my stride on the 20mm figures.  It took me about a week of work on the 16 OIF figures (maybe 10 hours?) and I have started on the US Army modern figs from Liberation Minis - they are nearly complete after 5 or 6 hours of work so far.

As I mentioned earlier, I dropped a couple hundred bucks this month, all on 20mm figures and models.

Yearly Completed Totals:
25-28mm infantry completed: 38
25-28mm cavalry completed: 3
20mm infantry completed: 16
15mm infantry completed: 33

March 2011 Totals

I did a lot of painting this month, but it really seems like I havent churned much out.  I got the turtle tank completed before I went to Cold Wars on the 10th, and then worked on the Gladiators that I got from the convention the rest of the time.

Ah, Cold Wars - I spent about $450.  I got a wide range of stuff from Macedonians from Sgt Major Miniatures, to fallschirmjagers from Warlord Games, to zombies and zombie hunters, to 1/600 modern fighter jets, to Predators and Terminators from Copplestone Castings.  I have some serious project, scale, period creep!  I guess there is nothing that is off limits for me to paint.

At the end of the month, I also purchased a 'hellhound' from Heresy Miniatures, and also one of their 'Deathball' characters for 10 pounds...about $16.  So, we will call it $466 dollars spent for the month of March.

Completed, for March, 2011:
28mm infantry completed: 15
15 Gladiators (Crusader Miniatures)
1 Turtle Tank Completed (Eureka Miniatures)

In progress, March/April, 2011:
Mini Sci Fi Vessel in progress: 1
1 NAC Suffolk Class escort (GZG Miniatures)

1/2400 Modern Ships in progress: 4
1 Arleigh Burke Class ship (GHQ Miniatures)
3 Los Angeles Class submarines (GHQ Miniatures)

15mm Modern Armor in progress: 7
2 M2 Bradley tanks (IrishSerb)
1 HMMWV (IrishSerb)
1 M2 Bradley tank (QRF Miniatures)
1 M1A1 Abrams tank (QRF Miniatures)
1 HMMVW (QRF Miniatures)
1 BMP2 Fighting Vehicle (QRF Miniatures)

28mm infantry in progress: 3
1 Nicolas (Recreational Conflict)
1 Wilhelm (my first dog!) (Recreational Conflict)
1 Business Woman (Recreational Conflict)

I did spend a lot of time prepping, priming, and base coating all of the armor listed as 'in progress' above.  I have made several mods to the vehicles, as well as added a bunch of stowage that didnt come with the models.  I spoke with 'TacoBat' (who has a blog I follow) about his armor weathering techniques, and I will be attempting a lot of that in April.

The three figures from Recreational Conflict are nearly complete (painting is done on them, but not the bases), and there will be pictures going up of them next week.  A couple of these are disappointing - a male emo cop that looks like Trinity from The Matrix and a business woman whose face looks like she is already a half zombie (my wife and I have already labeled her 'Mrs Butterface').  The dog is pretty cool though!

The modern ships are also based and primed, although they are definitely on the back burner for the moment.  The space cruiser from GZG has been primed and ready for about 6 months now.

Id also like to build a small 'arena' for the gladiators I completed this month, and give the game 'Red Sands, Blue Sky' a go solo.  But, we will see how that goes.

I cant decide on what my next figures I paint will be, but it will most likely be the box of fallschirmjager from Warlord Games, the Macedonian Pikemen (which I probably want to paint the most, but have NO idea how to paint them), or 6mm Sherman tanks.

Yearly Completed Totals:
25-28mm infantry completed: 26
25-28mm cavalry completed: 3
15mm infantry completed: 33
1/1200 naval vessel completed: 1
Turtle Tank completed: 1

Purchases in March, 2011:
Cold Wars - ~$450

February 2011 Totals

Looking back on my post of January totals, I listed several 'goals' of miniatures I wanted to work on/complete, and for the first time in a long time (maybe ever!) I finished everything that I set out to do, and a little more!

I completed a unit of 15mm ACW infantry,  a Napoleonic sailing vessel, a pirate, and a small SWAT team (which wasnt on 'my list').  My painting slowed down considerably while I got back into Star Trek Online, which is a shame really because I was really starting to get on a roll - most of what I completed was done by Feb 15th or so.

I made one small purchase - some modern armor from IrishSerb.

Completed, for February, 2011:
28mm infantry completed: 6
1 Pirate (Black Scorpion)
5 SWAT members (Foundry)

1/1200 Napoleonic naval vessel completed: 1
1 Spanish 64 Gun Ship (Langton Miniatures)

15mm infantry completed: 24
24 Confederate, with a few Union sprinkled in (Peter Pig)

In progress, February/March, 2011:
Turtle Tank in progress: 1
Turtle Tank from Eureka Miniatures

Mini Sci Fi Vessel in progress: 1
1 NAC Suffolk Class escort (GZG Miniatures)

1/2400 Modern Ships: 4
1 Arleigh Burke Class ship (GHQ Miniatures)
3 Los Angeles Class submarines (GHQ Miniatures)

15mm Modern Armor: 3
2 M2 Bradley tanks (IrishSerb)
1 HMMWV (IrishSerb)

I have a several models sitting on my desk, that im considering 'in progress', although Im not really working on them yet.  Im still waiting for the weather to change a bit so I can use an airbrush on them.  I also have an order in with QRF for one more Bradley, one more HMMWV, and an Abrams tank.  I plan on adding some stowage to all of them, and painting those, plus IrishSerb's stuff all at one time.

My current project, and one that truly is 'in progress', is the Turtle Tank from Eureka miniatures.  Im nearly done with the turtle and howdah, and only have 9 small turtles to paint.  I dont think they will take long if I can get the time to work on them.

I go to Cold Wars in March - basically, its gonna be my Christmas in March!  Im trying not to spend much money between now and then, or get into anything in particular (hence the Turtle Tank) before I go.  Ive been looking at the vendors who are going to be there, and Im looking at some Successors, some Carthaginians, or maybe even some Romans.  I havent done much in the 'Ancient' realm, but Im itching too.

January 2011 Totals

Another year come and gone, but that means I get to start a new Label on my blog - 2011 Totals!  This year, I have three goals when it comes to my painting hobby - speed up my painting, work on my miniature ADD, and keep better track of the money I have spent.

As far as speeding up my painting, im having a hard time really keeping up with the amount of time I spend.  I tend to paint while my wife and I are watching TV, and I stop from time to time to look at the TV, etc.  Im also an avid video gamer, and depending on the 'game of the week', I may put much more time into that than I do my 'little men'.  I estimate I spend 5-6 hours a week painting - maybe as many as 10, so, maybe Im not as slow as I think.

I bounce from subject to subject, which isnt necessarily bad, but Id love to stay focused on one period, or era, or one anything!!!  Last week I painted some US Marines, the week before that it was samurai, and currently its ACW.  I have some Napoleonic 1/1200 ships waiting on my desk, as well as one 28mm pirate, and a sci fi ship, not to mention about a million zombies, and other things too!

Finally, the money - Im probably better off not knowing - but I went over $1000 last year, but that was mostly just in figures!  I didnt really count basing material, books, etc.

So here it goes:

Completed, for January, 2011:
28mm infantry completed: 5
5 Outlaws (Black Scorpion)

28mm cavalry completed: 3
3 Mounted samurai (Perry Miniatures)

15mm infantry completed: 9
9 US Marines (Peter Pig)

In progress, January/February, 2011:
28mm infantry in progress: 1
1 pirate (Black Scorpion)

15mm infantry in progress: 24
24 ACW Confederate soldiers (Peter Pig)

1/1200 Naval Vessels in progress: 2
2 Napoleonic Spanish ships (Langton Miniatures)

Mini Sci Fi Vessel in progress: 1
1 NAC Suffolk Class escort (GZG Miniatures)  Still sitting on my desk - Im sort of waiting for the weather to get better to pull out my airbrush (at least that is my excuse)

My current 'thing' is the Napoleonic vessels from Langton miniatures.  They are beautiful models, but not only do you paint and base these, you also add the rigging as well.  Its very daunting to me, but Im looking forward to them.

Im nearly finished with the ACW figures, and then its on to the sailing ships and the Black Scorpion pirate.  (which I dont see on their site any more).
